Guardian,

I hadn't heard about a player getting picked up.  I guess when there is any news about any MSU anything, I've lost interest.  With all the shaft jobs going on up there campus wide, it always amazes me when people like Fuller and Hedberg still have jobs.   I guess Fuller is still there, well...because he doesn't have a boss and Hedberg's still there because he's so far up Fuller's you know what that he can't get out so Fuller has to keep him.

Anyways, if there is a student/athlete who got in trouble, I guess they aren't doing anything different than most other students or student/athletes on any campus in the country.  Yes, I know they shouldn't drink if they're underage and yes I kow they shouldn't get into fights but lets face it, those things went on when I was in college, when my folks were in college and I'm sure when their folks were in college.  It's going to happen so let's just remember that most of us (not all) but most have done the same drinking, partying, and having fun that these people are doing.  As long as it doesn't involve fighting where people get physically hurt or worse, let's just accept that it's going to happen.  I know when you put that many people into a small house and alcohol is involved, it has a good chance of being trouble.

Correct me if I'm wrong but has there been another arrest of a Minot State University Men's Basketball player for disorderly conduct and disobeying a movement control order??? You've got to be kidding me! What a freakin gong show!  This program has been in a downward spiral since Hultz took the reigns and it has been out of control the last five years. How much more of this are we going to be subjected to President Fuller and Director Hedberg? Am I the only one that has a problem with this guy and his circus? Reply...

Minoternobody is talking records but ,since you brought it up, maybe you should do some research before you brag about Hultz having a "winning record" and Sivertson's doesn't look too good if you get rid of the 2002 season.

First of all, why when talking records would you get rid of any season, good or bad.  Getting rid of Sivertson's 2002 season record would be like us getting rid of Hultz's 2004-2005 season when he was 23-9.  Since you brought it up, yes Hultz is just about the .500 mark.  Sivertson's "record" is above the .500 mark as well and is above Hultz's 52% winning record.

Nobody was talking records and I don't think either jobs should be just about records.  One needs to take a look at what the coaches do for the program, school, community and kids.  In the past 9 years I haven't heard much of what Hultz does.   In fact, I remember not too many years ago when Hultz took the midnight train to recruit some J.C. kids the night they lost in the early playoffs.  I believe that was the year Blom's was a senior but not sure.  Now Minoter, that is tacky.

I was at Sertoma when Sivertson spoke many years ago, I believe it was when he first moved to Minot.  Never have I heard a person in his position (coach, teacher whatever) do such a great job speaking for just having taken over a complete mess of a football program.  He was positive, upbeat and energetic.  Hultz has been here for years and I still get sick to my stomach when I'm at the Booster luncheon's and I have to hear him talk.  That's what I'm talking about.  The big picture of what these coaches offer, not just on the court or field but in all aspects of public relations.

That makes a good coach.

BTW, Hultz has a winning overall record (even with that first bad season), if you subtract the 2002 season from Sivertson's record, I'd say it doesn't look too good. Reply...

Rudolph, Hedberg (Rick) and Sivertson were all at Minot State at the same time.  Rudolph and Hedberg were tight.  Sivertson was the nice one of the three.  Reply...

P.S.  Oh and I do remember the winless conference season of '99-'00. Another prime example of he'd rather lose than use the local talent available to him. I still remember that team. Any sort of a coach at all could have still won a handful of conference games at least.  What a joke. He should have been fired after that season also. Reply...

Me, You made some outstanding points in that last piece that you wrote. I couldn't help but comment on them some more. The one that stood out the most was Sivertson was in it for the kids and Hultz is not. How true, how true, you couldn't be more correct! Last time I checked college football and basketball players are still called STUDENT ATHETES!! Players that you bring in here should plan on graduating with some sort of a degree or at least sticking around long enough to finish out the academic year!!! This has not happened with the 5 ringed circus Hultz is running.  Sure he can argue he has his couple of token local kids on the roster that he only has there to appease the Boosters instead of using.  Jeff Brandt and Matt Witwer are the only two local fulltime starters that I've seen that he intends to use but those two could play anywhere they wanted at the DII or lower level so he kinda has to use them. The rest of them have to step aside for the JUCO players of the week. Wouldn't you be better off surrounding players like Brandt and Witwer with a good core of local players (which you know you could and still win as many or more games than Hultz has) that plan on contributing to the community, university and program for years to come rather than just leaving never to be heard from again after the season is over??? What a gong show this guy is operating. Don't tell me it's all about winning because obviousIy he doesn't do that either. I know alot of people (myself included) that aren't planning on going to any games or contributing to the Boosters until a legitmate Minot State Men's Basketball program is implaced. Not to mention the questions about the Sivertson dirty ax job are answered as well.                                                                                                                                                                            Reply...

Farmwife has a point.  Maybe it does go back to something that happened in college...I don't know.  Rumor has it Hedberg was really pissed off when Sivertson got the job over Rudolph, so who knows.  Maybe this is more of a personal issue than a professional one. I guess screw jobs happen in all aspects of the professional sector.

For an Athletic Director to keep Hultz this long and do whatever he did to get Sivertson to resign is a disgrace to the University and the programs.  Is Fuller that dumb to allow this to happen...must be, it did?

Hultz has had subpar teams since he got there (other than the 04-05 season).  Does anybody remember the year he didn't win a conference game?  That was maybe 8 years ago or so.  Then you look at his non-conference schedule.  I mean how many times a year does he have to play a Brandon or other canadian teams?  That would be equivalent to the football team playing Mayville three times in the season.   Hedberg screwed up big time in the last year by letting Sivertson resign and hanging onto Hultz who, let's face it, doesn't have it no matter which angle you look at it.

Oh well, Sivertson is probably better off professionally getting out of Minot State.  Nobody who is at an NAIA school makes it anywhere.  OK you can say Randy Hedberg did but let's face it, he's an average coach at best.  The only reason he made it out of NAIA is because he played in the NFL for a couple of years.  Talk about someone who should be fired.   St Cloud State is and has done poorly for several years now.   Isn't that where Patterson went?  Kinda puts another twist into the scenario, doesn't it?

Unfortunately, Hedberg drove one of the better coaches in the industry out of the business.  One of the few coaches that was in it for the kids.

Farmwife, I believe I heard he and his family moved somewhere out of state, not sure where, and he's a Principal now at a big high school.   Not sure though.  It that's true, he's probably making twice the money and working half the hours.   Good for him!

I went to college with both Hedberg and Sivertson.  Could it go all the way back to then?  I could not tell you just putting it out there as food for thought.  Was there any kind of rivalry between them or was there just a difference of opinion about the direction of the team?  Many times you will see this in business or politics.

Where is Sivertson now?  His daughter was in my son's class.  Does Heidi still work for the TV station?

Here's the questions that I have. Sivertson was having success building a legitimate program and get's the ax out of the blue. Hultz has been running his program like it's just a stepping stone to bigger and better things to no avail the last nine years. What is Hedberg thinking?? What is going on behind the scenes that he knows that the rest of us don't know?? Why did Sivertson get fired when the one that should have got fired for the last five, six or seven years is Hultz? We all know there's alot of underhanded things going on but what are they?? Why is this guy still here when more deserving coaches are not. Reply...
