L-sybil,  is the veterens memorial on the roadside and in disrepair?

You just answered that question.

We need a law that after a few weeks they are taken down.  You may not have a problem with litter and disaray on the ones there , but we do here.  They are a mess.

to me it shows a lack of love to put them up , then let them fade.   Go to the cemetary.   Or better yet,   honor the life of the person, not the tragic death.

Shoppe, I have to dis-agree with you. As vast as this country is, I truly see nothing wrong with these roadside memorials. I suppose you are also against that Cross memorial for WWll veterans. I sure hope not. These memorials show the love of those lost, by those who loved them. Dont take that away from them.

I guess i just dont see it people complaining about a cross in the desert, a cross in the ditch, how about if we just leave a rock or something more NATUREAL like a dead dear, I rmember a dead dears head on the post off the highway and it stayed that way for years.

I am guessing Shop those people who put those crosses could care less if you like them or not it is there for those who know.

I know you cannot do this but lets say we drive by your place and there is something we think your mailbox and garbage should be located 10 feet over there →   I can imagine what you would say.   Same goes here if you dont like the scenery dont drive it or just close your eyes.  Seariously its people like you we have to have laws for so we dont make you disgusted with our ways, with our memorials.  We need to all abide by what you think and things will be perfect in the world, the birs will sing, the sun will shine and EVERYONE will in your storybook world live happily everafter.  Gotcha, everybody should do as you say.   I will try  I removed my laundry, I removed my memorial, I live in a desalate state for you my queen.  What are your orders ? My majesty. ....thy will be done.

Rye,

We just came accross the reservation yesterday on our way home from Rocky Point.  I have to agree, the last thing we need is another law, but, what a mess some of these things are.  Maybe a white cross like they have in some states and that is enough.  Gosh, some of those things are a church almost.  Most have been blown about by the wind (by the way did you like the storm?) and look like trash.  Just my thoughts.

We leave tomorrow for Minot, ND again.  enjoyed being here, short but sweet.

KXvuhur.  No one can take away the pain a family suffers when someone dies.   I am just saying don't do it at the POINT OF DEATH, DO IT AT THE POINT OF LIFE OR CLOSURE.    In your home, in your hearts, at the cemetary.

Its been 25 yrs since my niece Renee was killed by a drunk driver.   She has a beautiful cemetary stone.   It always has a little sea shell or some kind of rememberences on it.  Always nice flowers... She was 5.

No roadside memorial to remind us and everyone else of the spot she lost her life.

I believe its better that way.  Also the families  let it go and don't keep it up or REMOVE IT...

I want to pass a law against idiot posters, 37 !!

All you have to do is to stop paraphrasing Rush

1. He already said whatever you have to say

2. Everybody here is familiar with Rush and what he says ...and what he wants

3. We don't spend much time listening or paying attention to him

SO

Here you come, idiotically paraphrasing Rush. He's already been processed here. We don't need an instant replay...

if you stopped doing that, we'd make a big dent in idiot posters.

I see these crosses in the ditches, I see nothing wrong with it.  One looked nice next to the fence post.  It marks where a loved one died for reasons we do not know. It serves as a reminder to me how fast it can actually happen.  I thought about taking a picture of each one and posting as a reminder to us all how fast you can actually lose your life. Each one has a story to it.  Lets hear the stories or atleast let it serve as a reminder to you or the family which often drives by.

Years ago along the lost wood road there was one pine tree growing in the ditch. It was just one little pine tree.  Every year around christmas time, somebody went out and decorated it.  It was noticed by everyone, as years went by, the tree was not only decorated but there were presents placed wraped with christmas paper and bow. Later someone put a battery out there and the tree had christmas lights.  In the middle of nowhere.  I am sure this tree was an eyesore for some who think christmas is about christ and is a pagan, give me money day for big buisness.  This had nothing to do with buisness and had everything to do with Jesus.  It brought attention to people on the road and a reminder to me what christmas was all about.  The wonder of a small child we love to toy with, I often wondered who it was that did this.  I loved to believe in the good of man, and often wondered who it was that did this.

The years have passed, the game and fish got rid of the tree along the fence line, i only imagine because the tree was not native to the prarie, although it had growen there.  btw the tree dissapeared the year my father died.  I have no clue but I want that tree back in that ditch.  Put your crosses where you may.

What I am saying is you may not like something you see and you want laws because it offends you ?  How about closeing your eyes when you drive by

Yes, its a dangerous eyesore,  we need it stopped.  I don't mind like I said flowers for a week or two, but thats it.

I passed one on my trip last week that must have been 3 feet high, wooden, and probably weighed 100 pounds!   Permanent eyesore.

This is really a rare day when I disagree with 37 and agree with the Sloppegirl.     If someone wants to make or have a memorial, there is a proper place.  A cemetery or in your home.  Nobody has any business on the highway risking their life or someone else planting plastic flowers that are in the way of mowing.

I just feel that is what cemeteries are for, not the road side.     The roadside if more a cause of grief, where the cemetary is a place of closure.

No roadside memorials.    I would take them all down, but I would probably get caught and arrested.. :(

People that do not know the person, doesn't need to see and be reminded each day, year after year, after year.

And 37, you are right they are not taken care of.  Not at all.

around here..usually its a white cross..some may put flowers up..but those usually get blown away or something.  I know my sister in law lost her almost 2 yr old son in Montana..they go almost every day and maintain it..leave toys n fresh flowers for him.  Its beautiful to us. Reply...

They're a tradition in Arizona..You see them everywhere. If they're not well maintained, they're taken down, but most of them are well maintained.
What's the big deal about making them illegal, when the problem is failure to properly maintain them. Any legislator in Arizona who even proposed such legislation, would NEED one of those memorials.
