Mike Dandrea has been fascinated with weather since he was first able to talk. He attended a science assembly at his elementary school when he was in second grade when meteorologist Stephen Cropper gave a presentation. He told Stephen, “One day I’m going to be a weatherman like you!” and that is what happened. Mike did have several detours along the way, however, as he joined the Marine Corps after graduating high school (Semper Fi!).
Mike joins us from Saint Cloud State University, where he completed his degree in Meteorology with a minor in Broadcast Communication. During his time at SCSU, Mike completed a course in Broadcast Meteorology taught by Mike Augustyniak of WCCO in Minneapolis. He also completed an internship at WQOW in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. While at Eau Claire, Mike took to social media when severe weather struck the Chippewa Valley to warn residents in the area.
Although this is his first time living in North Dakota, Mike is no stranger to the area. His time in the Marine Corps had him serving with a reserve unit in Wahpeton. He is extremely eager to deliver the forecast for the area, and to get to know people in his new home.
If it’s wintertime, and Mike isn’t glued to weather data, you will definitely catch him rooting on the Winnipeg Jets. Otherwise in the summer, he’s either rooting on the Toronto Blue Jays, or enjoying a day on the lake.
