Minot’s main connection between North Hill and South Hill is shut down.
Drivers in the heart of Minot have dealt with slow traffic around Broadway Bridge for two years – while the old bridge was being torn down and replaced.
Now this year, the issue is the massive flood protection project that needs to tie into the bridge.
Work to make that happen required either several months of two-lane head-to-head traffic, or ten days of shutting down the bridge completely followed by about two months of two-lane travel.
City officials opted for the closure and shorter head-to-head traffic issue and so that closure period has begun.
Now if you want to use the 83 Bypass as an alternate route, be warned – construction on that highway begins today. It’s a continuation of last year’s work when the bypass from Highway Two to 4th Avenue was widened and a new bridge installed.
This year, widening goes on from 4th Avenue the rest of the way north to where the bypass rejoins Highway 83. That slowdown will be in place into the fall.
