11 Year Old Boy Faces 2nd Tumor

An eleven year old boy is facing surgery for the fifth time.

Jacob Smith was diagnosed with a rare condition 3 years ago and since then he hasn’t stopped fighting.

Here’s Alexus Arthur with Jacob’s story.

Take it one step at a time.

“Jacob has a Meningioma.” Nathan Smith, Jacob’s Dad.

3 years ago, when Jacob was 8 years old, doctors discovered a tumor known as Meninigioma behind his left eye.

“He’s had 3 scheduled surgeries that have turned into about 6.” said Nathan.

After the first surgery, Jacob experienced something new.

“When I woke up from my first surgery and I could barely see anything it was kind of scary.” said Jacob Smith, 11 Years Old.

Jacob became visually impaired.

“Doesn’t really hold me back from doing things that anyone with full sight can.” said Jacob.

After that first surgery, Jacob was stepping into his future with the worst behind him.

“In the winter’s I like to snowboard. In the summers I like to jump on the tramp.” said Jacob.

The whole family thought they were in the clear.

“Everything was fine until it wasn’t fine.” said Nathan.

But things took a turn for the worse.

“We thought we were in the clear and we had a routine check up last week and we aren’t out of the clear.” said Nathan.

A tumor the size of a ping pong ball is behind his nasal area.

“Scared and not very happy that it has came back.” said Jacob.

The next step is to return to Minneapolis for a 4th scheduled surgery followed by two months of radiation.

“You’re putting your child’s life into other people’s hands.” said Nathan.

They’re taking it one step at a time.

“As long as you have faith in God and you just go through it in kind of have your hopes on the positive side.” said Jacob.

They hope the long journey ahead will be in their rear view when they’re able to come home to the Magic City.  In Minot, Alexus Arthur, KX News.
