$2,000,000 lottery winner beats unlikely odds of 1 in 11,688,054

A New Town resident had an especially lucky St. Patrick’s Day weekend, hitting the lottery big.

The two dollar Powerball ticket was purchased at Safari Fuels number 104 (currently known as Racers) in Minot. It had five matching numbers, making it a one million dollar ticket.

The lucky winner paid one more dollar for the Power Play option, doubling their prize to two million.

It could be luck of the Irish, the drawing was on Saturday, the day before St. Patricks day and both Safari Fuels and the winner were notified first thing Monday morning.

Safari Fuels’ general manager, Randy Sund, said he’s never seen a big winner like this sold out of the store before, but that it’s sure to bring an uptick in lottery sales.
“We’ve had a lot more lottery people coming in to buy tickets and hoping that they win out of here too, so, we hope for the best!”

Customers said they wouldn’t mind an extra two million bucks.

“I’d do a lot of stuff. Wouldn’t be here!”

“I wouldn’t work, because I wouldn’t have to!”

“Probably handle all of my student debt and invest in something so I know I can leave a legacy for my kids.”

“Boy, there’s so many things. I’d take care of my parents.”

So what are the odds of getting five matching numbers like this case? One in 11,688,054.

Powerball’s next drawing is tomorrow, and that jackpot is up to 550,000,000 dollars. You would, of course, need all five numbers matching PLUS the Powerball.

The chance of winning that is a pretty big reach, it’s one in 292,201,338.
