The state fair is about eight months away, and local 4H members are preparing their entries. At the multi-county activity day, the kids had a chance to try something new.. from rope making to horse massages.

Hattie Heer has been a member of 4-H for the past few years and looks for any chance she can get to do crafts. In the past, she’s worked with ceramics and leather, but she decided to branch out and try making a hypertufa pot.

“You wait for about two days and then you can slip it out and then you could drill a hole in it -or whatever- so that, like when you put soil in it, if you want to use it for like pots -or stuff- the water can drain out,” says Hattie Heer, 4H Cloverleaf Member.

She says her favorite part was mixing all the ingredients by hand and pressing designs into the walls of the pot.
