One girl turned 8 years old and celebrated with a birthday party.
But at this party, none of the presents were for her — instead she asked that all of her guests bring a donation.

“Let’s go to the side.” said Kate Bast, 8 Years Old.
It’s Kate Bast’s 8th birthday and the first thing on her wish ist was to have a party that had anything skates and legos.
“I like hockey and I like legos.” said Bast.
Her second wish was one that would really make a difference in people’s lives.
“We got to talking about how we could help and I suggested to her that we could do something at her birthday.” said Amy Bast, Kate’s Mom.
“I’m asking for donations for Hurricane Harvey.” said Kate.
Kate immediately knew that it was Hurricane Harvey survivors she wanted to help.
“I was born in there.” said Kate.
Her family has many friends in Houston because they used to live there — which made Kate even more anxious to help.
“How does it feel to know you’re going to help some of your friends? Really good.” said Kate.
“To know that we can give back just a little bit, it means the world to us.” said Amy.
For Kate, it wasn’t about receiving the presents…
“She’s just a love and she empathizes with everybody.” said Amy.
It was about giving her presents to the one’s who need it most.
“I think it’s something that she’ll remember doing for a long time.” said Amy.

Kate would like to split the donations to the Houston Food Bank and the Red Cross.
