Ag producers warned to watch for unauthorized grain sampling, photos

North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring is warning producers about the possibility of people impersonating state employees in order to take photos and samples of grain.

“We’ve received calls from concerned farmers about individuals acting in an official capacity, taking photos and samples of their wheat fields,” Goehring said. “It was perceived that this individual was from state government, but after inquiries into various state agencies, including NDSU, we’ve not found authorization for any work of this type.”

“If someone stops and asks to take samples from your field or combine, please ask for credentials and the reason why,” Goehring said. “If you feel there is a suspicious person or activity in your neighborhood, please call the local authorities.”

An individual working for the state should be able to provide their name, the department they work for, be able to produce credentials and give the reason for their visit.
