Citing concerns about public safety and criminal investigations, the US Department of Justice has announced it is adding a second investigator assigned to the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota.

A press release from the Department says a recent meeting between~North Dakota’s US Attorney and a top official from the Bureau of Indian Affairs resulted in the decision to ramp up BIA’s investigative presence on the Reservation.

The two agencies say they will work with tribal law enforcement to improve the effectiveness of investigations and to deliver training to improve the quality of investigations.

The press release indicates the Department~of Justice is finding training resources that can be brought to the field to, quote, “address the situation.”
