Babe Ruth: 15’s claim fifth state title

The Bismarck Capital 15s claimed their fifth state title on July 17 at Municipal Ballpark.

Bismarck came into the championship round only needing a win to take the tournament.

However in the first game, they trailed 3-1 to the Fargo Americans after four complete. In the top of the ffith, Bismarck singled with a runner in scoring position and two outs, but, Fargo made a good throw to the plate from right to keep the score at 3-1.

Bismarck would not threaten for the rest of the contest. They fell 3-1. The loss was their first of the tournament.

The defeat also forced a winner-take-all game right after.

Bismarck scored two early, but Fargo loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fifth.

That’s when Connor Hanson took over. First, he recorded a strike out. Next, he threw an inning-ending double play.

Bismarck would score three more runs to win, 5-1.

The win punches their ticket to Junction City, Kas. for the Central Plains District Tournament which begins on July 27.
