For the Bismarck 15’s, the path to the Babe Ruth World Series will be even tougher after Friday’s opening action.
Their contest with the Fargo Americans was stopped because of lightning in the top of the fourth inning, but shortly after 7 p.m. the skies opened and the area got the rain it has sorely needed. At 7:30 the coaches met with the tournament director and umpires, and the group decided to officially postpone the game.
At the time of the stoppage, the 15’s were trailing 4-0 in the top of the fourth, and the 15’s only had mustered only one hit.
As of right now, the game is scheduled to be made up at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
Earlier in the day, though, the skies were clear for the Bismarck Bombers to take on Wahpeton.
With the game scoreless in the top of the second, Bismarck looked poised to strike first, with runners on second and third and no outs.
Wahpeton pitcher Isaac Getz did not back down from the challenge, as he earned a strikeout for the first out of the frame.
Bismarck’s next batter was Greyson Farnsworth, who promptly hit a fly ball to center field for out number two. Bismarck tried to tag up the runner from third, but the throw from center field was right on the mark to deny the Bombers a run.
There was no score into the third inning, but the Bombers would emerge with a 3-1 win.
The Bombers will play the winner of the 15’s and Americans.
