This Thursday was the start of First on First in downtown Dickinson, and for this summer event the band playing that night means everything.
“We’ve had as little as 500 show up for a night. We have up to . . . we can’t really count . . . but we’ve estimated up to 5,000 in a night . . . you know. It varies on who the band is,” said Tori Barnum, Manager of The Rock.
First on First has a little bit of something for everybody, but this year the annual summer event brought back a band that has old roots in the summer concert series.
“Its our first time back playing Dickinson. We were at the the LIve at Five . . . five or six years ago. We are excited to be back to open the First on First of the season .We’re stoked, ” said Nathan Dean, singer of the Nathan Dean Band.
The band said they had good reviews from the community the last time they played and expect a good turnout. They also said they like the street scene atmosphere the event brings.
“One of the things I like the most is being able to have families come out and spend time together. We do play a lot of bars so we don’t see that aspect that often, ” said Dean.
However, Beni Paulson of Outlaw Sippin Productions feels good about opening night.
“Very exciting first night. Its a kick off for the summer. Its good. Theres a lot of activity already.,” said Paulson.
First on First runs every Thursday from Jun 15 through August 17, and large part of its proceeds go to charity.
