Basin Electric lays off 25 employees in North Dakota

Basin Electric is letting 25 employees go from two power plants in North Dakota.
Dakota Gasification and Antelope Valley will both see cuts.
Basin says these layoffs are part of cost saving measures that have been happening over the last year and a half.
Curt Pearson, the Director of Communications says– they are offering a voluntary separation plan for its employees.
Pearson says there aren’t any additional plans to layoff more workers– but it is possible.
He also added– a more competitive marketplace, including cheaper natural gas and wind energy prices— are what’s driving some of Basin’s moves.
Basin Electric employs about 23-hundred people.
This is the 4th time the company has had to lay off workers– in its 57 year history.
