Be The Nice Kid

News

A beloved school counselor who died one year ago is being remembered by helping students in need.
Becky Field died in February of last year and left behind a legacy of caring for kids who facing difficulties at home.

Today, the staff of Longfellow Elementary in Minot christened “Mrs. Field’s Closet,” a storehouse of items that could make a student’s day much easier.
In addition, the staff promoted the “Be The Nice Kid” shirts they were all wearing – the result of one teacher’s search for a way to remember Mrs. Field’s admonition for students.

Today’s dedication was attended by Mrs. Field’s husband and daughter – and included comments from some of the kids she touched along the way.

“She was always caring about all the students no matter what.”
“I really loved how patient and kind she was with every student.”
(Tammy White, Longfellow Elementary) “She was, yes. I agree. I know that Becky’s friendship and love are missed. I hope that when you walk by this room and see her picture it will just make you smile.”

The items in Mrs. Field’s Closet were donated by local businesses and groups.
Organizers hope to expand the ‘closet’ to Roosevelt Elementary, where Mrs. Field was also a counselor.
