Bismarck airport evacuated after suspicious package found

Update 7:05 p.m.

Just after 4:00 p.m., the Bismarck Police was notified of a piece of luggage checked in at the airport that appeared suspicious. The luggage, when scanned, caused concern for TSA officials. TSA made the call to evacuate the airport until the package was inspected by Bismarck Police Department Bomb Squad.

The Bomb Squad completed their investigation shortly after 6:00 p.m. They found it not to be an explosive device, anything illegal, or dangerous. TSA is now in the process of preparing the airport to be reopened at should resume normal operations shortly.

Bismarck Police assisted in coordinating the evacuation of the airport.

Update: 6:30 pm

Cars are now being allowed into the airport to pick up passengers. There is no word on whether police have officially cleared the scene.

Flights out of the airport are grounded.

About a half a dozen cop cars are at the Bismarck airport as well as an ambulance and a firetruck.

There are police standing in the median directing traffic. 

Exits are open, and people are able to leave the airport, however no one is allowed into the airport.

There’s a long line of cars pulled to the side of the road waiting to get in the airport.

Officers on the scene have told KX News the evacuation is because of a suspicious package, but have no more information to say at this time.
