Today the Bismarck City Commission spent their morning interviewing candidates for police chief.
The commission decided to hire from within, and offered Dave Draovitch, the current deputy chief, the job.
Draovitch has been with the department for 29 years, and says it’s a privilege and honor to be considered for the job.
He went up against two other candidates.
Philip Smith Jr. from New Mexico and Gregory Volker from Kansas City Missouri.
Draovitch: “I don’t know how to describe what I’m feeling right now. I’m very humbled and I’m very appreciative of the support I’ve received throughout this process.”
Draovitch is the interim chief which took affect at 5 p.m. tonight.
