A North Dakota native and dog lover published her first children’s book.

It’s a true story of a dog named Pickles adopted after the 2011 flood in Minot.

Pickles was taken in by the author’s mother.

A small portion of proceeds from book sales will go to local animal shelters, including Furry Friends Rockin’ Rescue.

The author Kat Socks says, “In the story, Kat and her family adopt a dog named Pickles to their family farm. And Pickles has never been to a farm before so she does a few naughty things. Kat figures out, by using a simple training technique of redirection, how to keep her safe and listen on the farm.”

The book, Pickles the Dog, is available at multiple stores in Bismarck and now in Medora.

Socks will be at the Bismarck Barnes and Noble this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
