WDAY — A Bismarck family got more than it bargained for while shopping for winter boots.

Talon and Deakon Riederer and their mother were at K-Mart, trying on boots, when a family of mice appeared.

They had been living in the warm, fuzzy boots.

The kids remained calm, even asking their mom if they could keep the mice. Eight in all.

The K-Mart store allowed it, and the boys brought the mice home and put them in a cozy fish tank.

After awhile, they will be released into the wild.

“So proud of them that they have compassion that they are willing to save mice when it would have grossed everybody else out,” says Shasta Riederer, their mother.

The family not only went home with the mice family….but also the pair of boots.

K-Mart in Bismarck says they went through all the boot boxes. No sign of other mice. But to be sure, pest control was brought in to spray.
