A 19-year-old Bismarck man was arrested Friday night after assaulting two police officers.
Dusty Martinez was pulled over by Bismarck Police on his bicycle close to 9:30 p.m. at the 200th block of N 20th Street for not having proper lighting.
Upon pulling him over, officers discovered Martinez was wanted on an active Burleigh County warrant. Police also discovered drug paraphernalia on the young man.
They attempted to detain Martinez, and he reached into his left pocket. Officers told him to pull his hand out of his pocket, and Martinez proceeded to strike one of the officers in the face with a closed fist.
The Bismarck man fled on foot, and officers pursued him, ultimately bringing Martinez to the ground. The 19-year-old kept kicking and punching at the two officers, and they warned him if he didn’t stop, they would have to tase him.
When he didn’t stop, officers used the taser to force compliance.
The officers took pictures following the altercation, showing one officer had scratches on his neck; the second officer had scratches on his elbows and knees, and a swollen lip from being punched in the face.
Martinez was arrested for the active warrant, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest and fleeing on foot.
