Bismarck Police Department Officer with a Legacy Heads into Retirement

Officer Pat Renz has been with the Bismarck Police Department since June of 1992, but his full career as an officer spans 40 years.

Today his legacy was celebrated at BPD, because he’s retiring. Officer Renz says he’s had a great career and wouldn’t change a thing.

We asked him what’s changed over his 26, almost 27 years at the police station:

Officer Renz shares, “A lot. When I came here, I think we had three computers in the building and there were no computers in vehicles. We just had a police radio, and we had fold-out maps to find our way around the city when you were new. Yeah, it was low-tech.”

Officer Renz says he’s looking forward to taking off the winter, and not having to drive around in the ice.

He’ll be spending his time with his wife and 12 grandchildren.
