The more than 57 million dollar construction project to expand Bismarck Public Schools is well underway.
The project includes additions to three middles schools: Horizon, Simle, and Wachter.
Additional space will also be added to Century High School.
All three middle schools are already starting to see more students.
The multimillion dollar expansions are looking to ease overcrowding and accommodate the growing number of kids.
By the end of the expansion, all three middle schools will be able to accommodate 1,200 students.
The bond to renovate and add to the schools was approved in March.
Each middle school is receiving a gym, classroom additions, and music space.
“The growth is coming, so we’re trying to get ahead of that growth, so that we’re ready next year as we see those bigger classes come through the system,” Darin Scherr, BPS business and operations manager says.
Later in the process, Bismarck High School is also set to receive some upgrades with a new auditorium and remodeling to their current gym.
BPS hopes to see all new classroom spaces finished by the start of the next school year.
