Bismarck TSA Worker Shares Shutdown Impacts

The end of the shutdown didn’t happen before local businesses across the state had the chance to give back. Our Malique Rankin takes us to the airport and shows us just how much a free lunch meant to our TSA workers.

Gate City Bank and Pancheros teamed up to give Bismarck TSA employees a free meal.
Today was the second paycheck they missed before the partial government shutdown ended.

Cheryl Berg; TSA Worker: “It’s really nice knowing people actually care.”

Cheryl Berg tells us some of the hardships her coworkers are facing.

“Well. Some of them have gone on food stamps, some of them have taken out loans and are trying to get unemployment. But they’re not allowing unemployment,” says Berg.

While she has been able to make her bills, she said the shutdown has still changed spending habits for the entire family.

“I just can’t, ya know. No, we can’t go out to eat. No, we can’t do this, we can’t do that. No, I can’t buy you a prom dress,” says Berg.

While government agencies work to reopen and issue paychecks, employees will remain cautious as a second shutdown looms in 3 weeks. The government shutdown ending comes just in time for Cheryl. She told us, had she missed another paycheck, she would have had to decide which bills to pay.
