Bitter cold brings complications to crews battling Mandan house fire

A number of people are without a home after a fire in Mandan.

Around 9:15 last night, authorities were called to a burning home in Mandan. They arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the house on Second Avenue Northeast.

Officials say the fire started in the basement and made its way up the walls, engulfing the house.

The occupants of the home were able to escape before crews arrived.

A total of 24 firefighters in four fire trucks responded. One truck froze up in the cold temperatures and had to be towed away.

Fire officials say they aren’t sure how many people were displaced by the fire — and they’re still working to determine the cause.
