A new rail line is putting North Dakota on the map.
BNSF Railway Company has twelve certified sites across the nation and now Minot has been named the thirteenth location.
There is eight-hundred acres of land in Northeast Minot and the railway will take up approximately three-hundred eighty acres.
There is an existing rail line already there, but BNSF will be expanding off that, making it possible for products to be transported to states far and near.
For the remaining acerage, there is an opportunity for new businesses to move in and have easy access to rail lines.
“BNSF actually has clients come to them and ask for specific information on places where they feel is a good fit for them and logistically will work for a company. BNSF will be doing that for us now and so that is huge for us,” said Stephanie Hoffart, Minot Area Development Corporation President/CEO.
Minot is the first location in the state to receive this distinction.
The next closest BNSF certified site is more than five-hundred miles away.
