The Morton County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that the body found along the mouth of Cannonball River this past Tuesday, May 30th is Darvin Gratz.

According to Morton County, they used past X-rays from Gratz’s past surgeries to ID his body.

The 57-year-old Mandan was out fishing along the Missouri River May 10th, the same day he last had contact with his family. On the morning of May 11th, a boater came across an idling boat that was in gear along the shore of the Fort Rice boat ramp.

According to a release, The Morton County Sheriff’s Department, assisted by the ND Highway Patrol, ND Game and Fish, Burleigh and Stutsman counties as well as private helicopter service funded by the Gratz’ family all aided in the search.

The search was done by land, water and air over the past several weeks.

Gratz’ own family members were the ones to find the body Tuesday morning while searching along the Missouri River shoreline.
