Breastfeeding has many benefits for mom and baby.

Experts say 85-percent of moms breastfeed when the baby is first born.

That number then number drops to 64-percent after 6 months.
These rates are lower than they’d like to see.
To fix it – Bismarck-Burleigh county is offering breastfeeding classes.
To show support for mothers who want to breastfeed and to provide mothers with some of the basics.

Jessica Linneman, Registered Nurse and Lactation Consultant says, “Breastfeeding is the biologically normal way to feed our babies and so we want to normalize it in our community.”

Tonight was the first class and it will be offered all year long.
