During the Summer, Bully Pulpit is known as a top 100 golf course, but now it’s trying to make a name for itself as a Winter destination.
Casey Moen, Head Golf Pro at Bully Pulpit Golf Course, said that for the past eight years the golf course has been transforming itself into a cross country ski resort for Winter guest.
“I wouldn’t say shock is the word, but just knowing we are open for this is awesome”.
Some Dickinson residents like, Estee Milburn said that that they were unaware Medora had skiing in the Winter time.
“I actually did not know that”.
Moen’s said that the golf course is still working on developing a seasonal crowd.
“We just kind a had a vision and a plan to just make Medora just a little bit more of a year round destination”.
Many people think making the golf course accessible to skiing enthusiast is a great idea.
“I think its a great place in the Winter Wonderland to go skiing . . in Medora with the Badlands,” said Dale Beaudoin, Dickinson resident.
Moen’s said about eight miles of trail are open for the public to enjoy during the Winter at no cost.
“Those that come out here and ski, snow shoe, and fat tire bike, they just really enjoy being out here by themselves and just soaking it up”.
To keep the trails maintained and heavily packed with snow, Bully Pulpit Golf Course brings groomers and snow mobiles through the golf course, but on a dry season like this one, some areas can be difficult to maintain.
“Snowfall last year was much more above normal. Temperatures are a little lower which makes it tougher on guest, but its been better the last couple of weeks, and a fresh groomed trail makes for awesome conditions,” said Moen.
Bully Pulpit is known for its golf and doesn’t offer ski rentals at this time, but some said now that they know it offers skiing that they might check it out soon.
“Oh, yeah. I think it would be absolutely great. It would be a lot of fun,” said Milburn
Bully Pulpit will open up its golf course for the Summer sometime in April, weather permitting of course.
