Governor Doug Burgum today directed government agencies to fly the United States and North Dakota flags at half-staff Tuesday, May 15, in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day.
He also encouraged North Dakotans to do the same at their homes and businesses.
The governor’s directive follows a proclamation issued by President Trump, calling on Americans to observe Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, and Police Week, May 13-19.
“Our law enforcement officers have our deepest gratitude for their unwavering dedication to protecting our lives, our property and our liberty,” Burgum said in his proclamation. “On Peace Officers Memorial Day – and every day – we honor the brave men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty. Their courage and sacrifice will always be remembered.”
The North Dakota Peace Officers Memorial ceremony will take place Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m., near the Peace Officers Memorial on the east side of the state Capitol’s Judicial Wing.
