Governor Doug Burgum this afternoon signed an executive order granting an “hours-of-service” waiver for commercial propane drivers.
The waiver means propane haulers can work longer hours than currently allowed by state law.
The reason for the exemption is to alleviate the low inventories of propane North Dakota homeowners, farm operations and businesses are facing due to recent severe weather and increased heating fuel demands in other states.
Waiving the hours-of-service requirements will ensure that carriers and drivers can deliver propane to businesses, farms, ranches and private households to meet the state’s needs.
The waiver will remain in effect until Feb. 17. All road safety and vehicle compliance regulations will still apply.
