With Missouri River levels and concerns both rising, Burleigh County will now be offering sand bag fill sites.

Burleigh County has established two, self-fill sandbagging sites for citizens to fill and take sandbags, free of charge.  Citizens need to bring their own shovels and gloves.

Burleigh County Commission Chairman Jim Peluso relays “The Burleigh County Flood Annex is being utilized.  The plan was originally developed in 2010 and has response actions corresponding to forecast gage predictions.”  The Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department and the Burleigh County Highway Department continue to monitor areas for water encroachment.

For the rural areas in Burleigh County, some homeowners are seeing the levels rise, and are looking to be proactive. This is why the county made sand available.

Mary Senger; Emergency Manager for Burleigh County: “You know, again, we have some areas that are low-lying, and we know which areas those are. But, 13 feet, we’re still doing pretty good.”

Senger  says the county won’t be concerned until levels hit 14 and a half to 15 feet. She says the emergency services department is providing many resources.. and as much information as possible on their website. If you feel concerned about your own property being damaged by the river, call your county’s emergency services department.
