Burleigh Sheriff Pat Heinert wins “Love without fear” award

Working to put an end to domestic violence in the area is a big task. And one community member has been recognized for their efforts in this week’s positively North Dakota.

Every year, the Abused Adult Resource Center presents the “Love Without Fear” award for making a difference in the community relating to domestic violence. This year’s recipient is Burleigh County Sheriff Pat Heinert. He has allowed his department to be trained by those at the resource center to better serve the local community.  But Sheriff Heinert says the fight is far from over.

“We still have a struggle in domestic violence across the country, specifically in the Bismarck-Mandan area. And we need to support them, we need to make sure that our officers are trained. We need to make sure that we’re responding in an appropriate manner and helping people deal with domestic situations,” said Sheriff Heinert.

Over the last year, the Abused Adult Resource Center provided over 9,000 nights of shelter to those affected by domestic violence.
