They promise pay-off for people.. who mail a bottle to a friend…
It’s a Facebook post with a big promise.
Send one bottle of wine to a friend… and end up with six, or even 36, for yourself…
Sound too good to be true? That’s because it is.
Gift exchanges like this one are considered a pyramid scheme by the U-S postal inspector.
Mechele Mills with the Better Business Bureau says it’s about more than that though.
Mills says these gift exchanges started with chain letters… long before the Internet.
No matter the medium, they could lead people to provide their addresses to strangers.
