A judge has thrown out charges against North Dakota Department of Human Services leader Maggie Anderson.

Anderson, along with four others were charged with conspiracy to obstruct a government function and refusing to perform a public duty.

The charges stemmed from the 2015 drowning death of a 5-year-old child in Velva.

Northeast District Judge Donovan Foughty also dismissed charges against DHS agency attorney Jonathan Alm today as he did with another agency attorney last week.

Foughty has not ruled on a motion to drop charges against Laurie Gotvaslee, director of the agency’s regional center in Minot.

A fifth Human Services employee charged in the case will have her record cleared in three months if she stays out of trouble.
