In continuing coverage: After an hour of discussion, Mandan City Commissioners decided chickens can be in Mandan backyards.

The City received several requests by people asking to house them in town.

Before the decision tonight, City Code did not allow people to have chickens unless they were for commercial sale.

As we first reported a couple of weeks ago, the residential chicken ordinance comes with some specific guidelines.

– You have to apply and pay one-hundred dollars for a permit.
– The coop and the run need to be 10 feet from property lines.
– And, owners can have up to 4 hens, but no roosters.
