Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the State Capitol

Tonight was the annual tree lighting ceremony. It’s a tradition that’s also been held at the capitol for decades. And in continuation with that tradition, the tree was adorned top to bottom with handmade ornaments. But the moment of the night, was when the tree was lit.

The ceremony included words from the Governor and First lady, scripture readings, and Christmas carols sung by the Simle Middle school choir. Over a hundred guests filled the memorial hallway at the Capitol.

You can see the tree for yourself up close during normal business hours in the memorial hall of the capitol building. If you’re wondering what happens with all the pretty ornaments after the holiday is over, the office of the first lady actually keeps them, and they can be used for a future tree lighting.
