City Council Motions to Reconsider Liquor Ordinance Amendment

Closing time at bars and restaurants in Minot will remain at one AM, for now at least.

Contrary to last week’s approval by the Liquor and Gambling Control Committee, City Council’s consensus was to send that decision right back to the committee.

The liquor ordinance amendment was approved directly in line with state law.
Approval came after months of consideration and testimony from both local bar owners and police.
For one business owner, tonight’s decision to withhold that approval was unexpected.
While on the other hand, Minot City Council agreed that there is still more to consider before finalizing such a decision.
(Mike Miller/Owner, Elevation) “Very surprising when it became dependent on tonight. Everything that we’ve talked about, we brought those issues up and everything. Now it’s coming out, in my mind, out of the blue, it’s quite odd to me.”
(Kenton Kossan/City Alderman) “Providing people with an extra hour to consume alcohol may not seem like a big deal. But if you break it down to being a .06 or a .09, your odds of being involved of a crash that could kill somebody increases exponentially.”
The next Liquor and Gambling Control Committee meeting is set for March first.
