City of Bismarck is set to celebrate Arbor Day

Each year a ceremonial Arbor Day tree is dedicated to a citizen who has made a significant contribution to Bismarck’s urban forest.

This year they are celebrating two people and two trees will be planted.

Bismarck City Forester, Doug Wiles, City Forester says trees provide a big benefit.

“Not just aesthetics, they can also improve property value, they capture stormwater, they clean the air. It’s just a lot of benefits that sometimes we may take for granted. Arbor Day is a day to bring that in everybody’s mind to recognize that,” said Wiles.

The ceremony is this Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Jaycee Park.

The event will feature Mayor Bakken and Fifth-grade students from Highland Acres Elementary School.
