As Shaun Sipma takes his mayoral seat, his position as an alderman is up for grabs.
The city had several options to go about filling the seat:
Those included holding a special election, waiting until the November election, or allowing the new mayor to choose, essentially, at his own discretion.
But city officials are expected to declare the game plan today.
Here’s what we know about it:
There will be about a two-week period for residents to show interest in the open seat.
This is open to anyone — not just the people who campaigned for the June 12 election.
Then, roughly two weeks later, a special council meeting will hear the cases of all contenders and decide that night who will be the fourth person on city council.
This will help the city fill the seat as soon as possible, without having the expense of a special election.
