One in three low-income families report having difficulty affording basic household necessities. Students in the Roger Looyenga Leadership Development Program at Minot State wanted to do something to help need-based students. They organized a carnival to raise money to gather personal hygiene products for students at McKinley Elementary.

“Toothbrushes, toothpaste, body wash, deodorant, hair ties: just kind of things that fall through the cracks. When you think of school donations, you think of school supplies, we have Backpack Buddies here in town, a lot of churches do clothing, but no one’s done the personal hygiene products yet, so we wanted to raise awareness of this and get this started,” says Aaron Richard, Co-organizer of Essentials for Learning Sunday Funday carnival.

You can help this program by donating to the Souris Valley United Way and mentioning Essentials for Learning on the memo line of your check.
