Community Thanksgiving supper serves hundreds

In a room full of good food .. good company .. and good times, there’s a lot to be thankful for.

“I am thankful for a really great group of people coming together and putting on this event,” volunteer, Peter Sandroni said.

More than 50 volunteers spent about 80 hours to coordinate and prepare enough food to feed 250 people on Thanksgiving Day.

Dinner was served at Christ Lutheran Church, but it was all made possible with helping hands from The Pursuit, Salvation Army, First Baptist Church, and more.

“That’s what we love about it,” Kathy, a co-coordinator said. “It’s not really a sponsored by one person – it’s just the community coming together and honestly, that’s probably the best way to give thanks is to just come together and appreciate each other, so.”

Fellow coordinator, Liz Kinlaw said, “I just feel like there’s a big need for it. Not as much for the food, even though that is a big portion of it,  but also for the fellowship and just for the connection, the human connection.”

You could feel the connection when you walked in the room.

Everyone seemed to have at least two things in common .. full bellies .. and a lot of thanks to give.

“I come here often on Tuesdays and this is a little overwhelming for me, the outpouring of everybody’s love,” Dawn Ricker said of the event.

“I’m thankful for my friends and family,” said Cooper Kittleson, “because I can’t imagine my life without them.” His sister agreed.

Nialla Johnson added, “I’m thankful for my family, for being here today, and my friends.”

“There’s so many people here, not just here, but in general, who don’t have the opportunity to give and I’m just so thankful to be here to give back to family, friends, and so many others,” Grady Roe said.

Kimberly Roe said she’s thankful for her friends, family, and her pets.

With such a great turn out in both attendance and volunteers, coordinators of the community supper want to make this an annual event.
They’d also like to be able to host events on other big holidays like Easter and Christmas.
