Construction has begun on phase 1 of a sewage project that has been in the works since 2007.
There are 2 sewer systems running through Minot, and this one, nicknamed the “Puppy Dog” system, is responsible for about 25% of sewage in the city.
Construction workers are putting in a new, 30 inch pipe along 37th Ave. SE, which is where construction is kicking off this week.
Detours have already put in place, as roads are currently blocked between 55th street and the east entrance to Eastside Estates, just off highway 52.
The 5.5 million dollar project is being built so that it can stay ahead of city growth.
(Dan Jonasson, City of Minot Director of Public Works) “We’re going to be able to serve a lot more area south and southwest of Minot for future growth and expansion. It’ll open up a lot more acres for development.”
Phase one of the project is expected to be done in 2-3 weeks.
The entire sewer system is expected to be complete by September 2017.
