Not all of us switch between evening gowns and military uniforms.

Laura Schmidt joined the national guard in 2010, was commissioned in 2012, and became a fulltime soldier a few years ago.

At the beginning of this year — Schmidt was crowned Mrs. North Dakota International.
She says she’s found a lot of common ground between her pageant career, and her soldier career.
Both focus on community service — her platform is with the Ronald McDonald House.
When Schmidt isn’t volunteering — what she does at the Guard;    it’s pretty hardcore.

Cpt. Laura Schmidt; Mrs North Dakota International/NDNG Civil Support Team Leader:
“And we deal with weapons of mass destruction. And any type of support that is needed by civil authorities, we deal a lot with emergency management services teams, police, firefighters. As well as other organizations that needs us. That can be anything from the NFL teams to special events that are held in our state and across the nation.”

Just last week Captain Schmidt and her team responded to a call of a questionable package, picked it up and took it into their lab for testing.
