People concerned about the management of the Souris River system, including the Mouse River in North Dakota, have more time to file comments about that management.
The International Joint Commission is seeking input from the public as it looks into possible changes in the 1989 agreement governing operations of the river.
The study came about after the 2011 flood and questions about how the river was managed.
A deadline for comments that had been in September, has been extended to November.
(David O’Connell, River Study Board Member) “Government’s always been slow in getting the general public’s comments. We don’t want to see another Minot flood and at the same time if we can manage the water, let’s do it and it saves a lot of heartbreak and if we do it right it should never happen again.”
The deadline is now November 12th.
