Defensive linemen Ezell pulls double duty

News
In indoor football, players playing on both sides of the ball is the norm. But typically, it’s for skill players. But the Bucks have a lineman that’s pulling double duty.

“I don’t just want this guy on our team,” Coach Richard Davis said. “I want to build our franchise around this type of person.”

Strong words from first-year head coach Richard Davis about Tyrone Ezell. Ezell is the most imposing figure on the team standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 315 pounds.

“He’s just a dominant force in the middle,” Davis said. “They don’t knock us off the ball in the middle. They’ve got to get to the edges on him.”

Tyrone has clogged running lanes for opposing offenses all year, then because of injuries on the offensive line, Coach Davis asked Tyrone to start on offense and defense.

“It was different.” Ezell said. “I had to learn the plays on offense within a week.”

Tyrone started both ways last week against the north-division leading Sioux City Bandits. Excluding kickoffs, Tyrone played every snap, but late in the fourth quarter the Bucks ironman started feeling light headed.

“They only break I got up to that point was kickoff and that’s three, four seconds total,” Ezell said. “After that, I’m right back on the field. Don’t let an interception or turnover happen, I’m still on the field.”

Tyrone was exhausted, but he’ll do it again because he loves to help the team. He’s also starting to love Bismarck. Coach Davis said he receives compliments on his star player all the time. Tyrone would not rule out living here after the season.

“Possibly,” said “You never know”

Tyrone and Bucks are on the road this weekend against Salina.
