New today — Democratic-NPL legislative leaders introduced their priorities for the 2019 session, that’s just under a month away.
Senate Minority Leader Joan Heckaman and House Minority Leader Josh Boschee went over four key areas they will be honing in on.
First, they will work to strengthen public services by bringing in more public employees.
Senator Kathy Hogan discussed Medicaid expansion and implementing recommendations made from a behavioral health study to support North Dakota’s most vulnerable.
Senator Erin Oban proposed a three percent increase in K-12 funding each year, for the next two years.
The fourth issue Representative Josh Boschee brought up. It’s to execute a workforce development plan.
He says the report put out by the Workforce Development Council in October will be a road map through which congress can work to strongly invest in the workforce crisis.
Rep. Boschee adds, “We don’t need to conduct another study on this issue. In fact we don’t need to study much of the issues that we’ve addressed today. We know what the problems are, and if we continue to bury our heads in the sand, problems are only going to continue to get larger and more expensive. We know what the problem is, and it’s time to address it.”
The Democratic Leaders say their overall priority will be putting North Dakota’s working families at the top of the list.
We’ll hear from the other side tomorrow.
