Dickinson Roller Derby giving back to community

Roller Derby is picking up steam in the state. Over in Dickinson, their roller derby team emphasizes making each of their events about more than just the competition.

On Saturday the team hosted a Theodore Throwdown roller derby event against Aberdeen. KX Sports caught up with team member Tessa Beyers, who says their events go beyond just the sport itself.

“Every time we have a bout or event, we try to highlight a local charity of some sort, like a local chapter,” Beyers said. “[Saturday] we’re doing the Salvation Army’s local chapter, and we have a 50/50 raffle and a donation bucket. We just try to give back to them.”

Though the team lost the bout to Aberdeen, Beyers said the 50/50 raffle generated over one hundred dollars for the Salvation Army.
