Whether you realized you forgot to find a gift for someone, or you ran out of time to do your shopping, you may be feeling the stress of trying to find a gift with only a couple days left before Christmas.

One option is to check out what materials you have around the house and use that to make a gift yourself. This hot chocolate in a jar project doesn’t require much skill, and all the ingredients are likely already in your pantry. All you need is a jar, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, powdered milk, chocolate chips, crushed candy canes, and marshmallows. Layer the ingredients one by one into a mason jar then tie a ribbon to the lid and it will be all ready to be gifted.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup non-fat dry milk powder
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • chocolate chips
  • crushed candy canes
  • marshmallows

Layer each ingredient into a quart-sized jar and pack the powder down as you go. Tell the recipient that when they are ready to drink the hot chocolate, pour everything into a large bowl and mix the ingredients together. Add 1/2 cup of hot chocolate mix to a mug and pour 8oz of freshly boiled water and stir until dissolved.

Don’t forget that with Christmas Eve being on a Sunday this year, many local malls will only be open for just a few hours.
