50 area families have a full turkey dinner to put onto their tables this Christmas thanks to efforts of a local group.
The Souris River Basin Longbeards assembled baskets with a turkey, stuffing, pie crust and filling, milk, and more to be give to families in need this holiday season.
The group raised about five thousand dollars this year to buy 572 turkeys for local food pantries.
Today, the turkeys came from Marketplace Foods, and the rest of the meal was purchased by the Longbeards.
(D.J. Randolph, Souris River Basin Longbeards) “It’s one of the more enjoyable things we do throughout the year, giving back to the people who support us, giving back to the community is part of what we’re about.”
(Missy Barnett, Community Action) “Every year, we need it. It never changes. It gets better sometimes but it’s always there.”
The Longbeards are a local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
