WATFORD CITY (WDAY) — A 66-year-old Fargo woman who survived a rollover crash 12 miles outside of Bismarck Friday, May 11, died four days later from an existing medical condition.
The woman, identified as Patricia Westerholm, was treated and released the same day of her accident from Sanford Hospital in Bismarck.
Westerholm then left Bismarck to visit her mom in Watford City, where Tom Westerholm, Patricia’s son, said she was originally headed when the crash occurred.
Westerholm said at 3:05 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, Patricia passed out in the hallway of her mother’s home and her eyes rolled back into her head. She was then rushed to McKenzie County Healthcare Systems hospital in Watford City.
Patricia died later that day in the hospital from a ruptured aortic aneurysm, Tom said. He believes his mother had the aortic aneurysm prior to the accident and that it then leaked. Patricia had a history with aneurysms, Tom added.
In an added blow to the family, Patricia’s death occurred on the birthday of her late husband, Thomas Westerholm, who passed away 11 years ago.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, May 17, in Watford City, and the burial will be held at a later date in Fargo.
